Fighting against police brutality will take more than simply uploading pictures and facebook statuses, it requires those of us on the ground, to do work. Some of that work is in direct action activism, but some of it is in demanding real legislative change within our own cities and states. That means voter registration, understanding who is in what office, knowing the power and limitations of those officials, and your own power as a citizen.
We have compiled a list of demands that coincides with the shooting of Michael Brown and the ending of Police brutality all over. Please feel free to add to our list, as well as suggest real world solutions.
List of Demands
*That a national and local database will be created to keep ALL police related shootings,
*That the LMPD be required to wear a camera on their person for the entirety of their shift in addition to cameras on their vehicles,
*That the VIPER Squad dismantle,
*The creation of a independent citizens review board,
*That the names of officers involved in shootings or other police crimes be released with the incident reports as that of the victim, and
*That the LMPD and the Jefferson County Sheriff department discontinue receiving military grade weapons from the 1033 program.
Many people locally have asked what they can do to show support to the people of Ferguson, in addition to sending supplies and funds-- Here is your chance, come together peacefully to demand justice for Michael Brown and those whose lives have been taken due to Police Brutality.
